SEOPCO Accomplishments – 2012

 

  • Agreed to expand to 12 board members
  • Worked with the Village to inform its citizens through a public forum, of a new business selling guns within our SEOPCO service area. Gained local and National media attention and pushed the village to work toward establishing better business zoning within its boundaries. It is a work in progress.
  • Received the Oak Park Department of Public Health 2012 Dr. William Fitzsimmons Award. This award is presented to organizations and individuals you are dedicated to provide the foundation for a healthier Oak Park.
  • Assisted PlanIt Green in advertising for their Food Scrap Composting Forum held at Irving.
  • Conducted two board member retreats to bring focus on what the board individually and collectively envisions the organization to be for the future.
  • Developed new Mission and Cultural Belief statements.
  • Assisted Irving Schoolyard Committee in January 2012 forum about the plan to convert the schoolyard.
  • In conjunction with Irving School and the Park District of Oak Park held Movie Night in the Park on Friday August 24,2012
  • Barrie Fest held Saturday September 22, 2012. Our annual celebration of our neighborhood in Barrie Park. Local live bands, Business fair, Pet Parade, bounce houses for children, Local Police and Fire Department Demos and information. Food by local entrepreneur Karen Gruber and Oak Park business The Perfect Dinner.
  • Met with Envision Oak Park to provide input on behalf of SE OP on the 20 year plan for Oak Park.
  • Raised $340.00 for the Irving Schoolyard Project through a month long (October) promotion at Culver’s Berwyn location.
  • Helped advertise the Whole Foods fundraiser for the Irving Schoolyard Project on November 1, which raised approx. $4,500.
  • Regularly distributed news and information of interest and importance to our neighborhood through our gmail list serve (500 people) and our Face book page.

Gary Cuneen, Founder and Executive Director, Seven Generations Ahead will present a report on the OPRF PlanIt Green process and lead a discussion of what should be the report priorities.

KC Poulos, Sustainability Manager for the Village of Oak Park will present programs and incentives for residents “Going Green”.
